Social media is here to stay and it is more important than ever to know why and how to use this powerful tool to minimize risks and maximize potential. In this train the trainer session, librarians will find out how to run programs for children and parents on how to be great online. Topics covered include online habits, understanding privacy settings in browsers and apps, what “free” means on the Internet, respect, and learning to be part of an online economy. Participants will leave with a host of resources, materials, and programming tips to engage communities in a conversation about social media literacy.
This workshop is part of the Media Smart Libraries program which was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services Grant # LG-07-14-0045-14 and awarded to the URI Graduate School of Library and Information Studies.
