Media Smart Libraries kicked-off their continuing education workshop series Tuesday, October 6th at East Providence Public Library. This workshop, titled Twitter 101, was facilitated by GSLIS alumna Catherine Damiani who currently works as the Digital Services Librarian at East Providence Public Library. This workshop was designed to introduce librarians to twitter and teach this microblogging tool as a vehicle to exchange information.
Twenty-seven public and school librarians gathered for Damiani’sworkshop,ready with devices to work hands on with the social media tool. Damiani began with a short tutorial on how to use twitter before diving into how libraries can use twitter effectively. Librarians were encouraged to tweet their experience during the workshop, adding to the hands-on experience.
The next workshop in the Media Smart Libraries series will take place on November 3rd at Cumberland Public Library from 6-8pm. Michelle Lipkin, Executive Director for the National Association for Media Literacy Education, is presenting the workshop Start a Conversation on Digital Voice in Your Library.
