January 5, 2016. Boston, MA. The Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) held their annual conference at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel from January 5-8, 2016. Media Smart Libraries was excited to present a poster at the ALISE 2016 Works in Progress Poster Session on Tuesday evening. This event was a chance for Library and Information Science educators to share their current projects, solicit feedback, and network with peers. Mary Moen, Valerie Karno, and Lauren Mandel represented Media Smart Libraries, along with graduate assistants Allison Barker and Alyssa Taft.
“Feedback from colleagues validated the importance of this project” says Mary Moen, Program Director. “People supported the work we are doing to build partnerships to increase people’s awareness of the roles libraries can play in digital and media literacy initiatives. It is definitely a hot topic.”
In addition to the poster, we distributed an infographic capturing the progress of the program. Thus far, Media Smart Libraries workshops have reached over 50 individual librarians in addition to our 24 cohort members. Of those participants, 100% found that workshops focused on important content, 94% believed workshops would help with new approaches to their library practice, and 90% responded that workshops would make a difference in their work with students, families, and the community.
